Metabolic Studio, Central, 1st Council District
As a part of CURRENT:LA Water, Lauren Bon and Metabolic Studio will be hosting olla making workshops utilizing clay dug directly from the LA River corridor where Metabolic Studio is currently working.
Because water seeps through the walls of an unglazed olla, these vessels can be used to irrigate plants. The olla is buried in the ground next to the roots of the plant to be irrigated, with the neck of the olla extending above the soil. The olla is filled with water, which gradually seeps into the soil to water the roots of the plant. It is an efficient method, since little water is lost to evaporation or run-off.
The olla workshops will be held during the art biennial on Thursdays from 10:30am to 4pm at Metabolic Studio. All participants should plan on being able to stay the entire time to be able to properly learn and complete an olla. Every olla made during the workshops will be used within the Delta of Mt. Whitney which will be the distribution network of Bending the River Back into City. Lunch will be provided. Space is limited to 8 participants per workshop and the dates are as follows: July 21, July 28, August 4, and August 11.
Please RSVP to [email protected]. Reservations will be taken on a first come, first serve basis.
